The start of a new year is a great time to focus on creating healthy habits to improve your overall health. An essential area to focus on is food, and there are a few straightforward but effective habits you can embrace to eat better.

  1. Plan ahead. Taking the time to plan meals can help you make healthier choices and avoid impulse eating.
  2. Eat more healthy foods. Focus on filling your plate with whole, unprocessed foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.
  3. Avoid processed and sugary foods. These foods often contain many empty calories and can contribute to weight gain and other health problems.
  4. Drink plenty of water. Water is very important to good health and will keep you hydrated a nd feeling full. Aim to drink at least eigth glasses a day.
  5. Eat more plant foods. Incorporating more plant foods into your diet can provide a wide range of nutrients and is associated with multiple health benefits.
  6. Don't skip meals. Skipping meals can lead to overeating later and cause your blood sugar to drop, making you fatigue.
  7. Eat slowly and mindfully. Taking time to eat and paying attention to your food can help you enjoy meals more and make healthier choices.
  8. Eat a variety of foods. A varied diet can help you get a wide range of nutrients.
  9. Limit your alcohol intake. Although a glass of wine or beer can be enjoyable, excessive alcohol consumption can lead to weight gain and other health problems.
