Outlander and Battlestar Galactica showrunner Ronald D. Moore is adapting Sarah J. Mass' bestselling fantasy novels for Hulu. Moore and Maas are writing the pilot for a live-action adaptation of A Court of Thorns and Roses.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is described as : "A Court of Thorns and Roses blends epic romance, adventure, and political intrigue in a tale of a huntress who agrees to travel to a magical realm with a faerie lord in return for her family’s safety, only to fall for him and ultimately fight for that love when an ancient curse threatens to destroy the faerie and human realms."
Mass confirmed the deal after her husband Josh revealed the project by including a corner of a script title page in an Instagram photo.
Mass wrote in an Instagram post: "So, it’s official (and thank you, Josh, for accidentally spilling the beans! ): Ron Moore (creator of Outlander and one of my creative idols) and I will co-adapt ACOTAR as a tv show for Hulu! I’m currently hard at work writing the pilot with Ron (!!!!!), and while there is SO much more news to share with you guys about bringing this series to life, it just feels so great to finally be able to talk about this! Stay tuned for more details!!"
Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses was published in 2015. At the time it was pitched as a loose beauty and the beast retailing. It was followed by A Court of Mist and Fury in 2016, A Court of Wings and Ruin (2017), and A Court of Frost and Starlight (2018). The newest book in the series A Court of Silver Flames was just published on February 16, 2021.
Synopsis of A Court of Thorns and Roses
Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price ...
Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre's presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever
Maas also is the author of the YA fantasy book series Throne of Glass and the ongoing adult fantasy romance series Crescent City, which launched in 2020 with House of Earth and Blood.
