According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jodie Comer won’t be reteaming with Ridley Scott for his new film. The actress, who previously worked with the director on The Last Duel, has had to drop out of Kitbag, Scott’s Napoleon biopic, due to a scheduling conflict.
“Unfortunately, due to COVID and changes of schedule, I don’t think I can make Kitbag work right now due to a scheduling conflict,” the actress told THR’s Scott Feinberg on his Awards Chatter podcast.
Comer was supposed to play Josephine in the epic historical drama centered on the French military leader Napoleon Bonaparte. The film focuses on Napoleon’s rise to power and the love story between him and Josephine. According to Deadline, Apple is already in “advanced negotiations” with another actress for the role.
Joaquin Phoenix remains on board to portray Napoleon. The film is expected to start shooting in Europe later in January. Apple Studios is financing and producing the project.
Comer has been widely praised for her performance in Last Duel. Her next screen project, season four of AMC’s Killing Eve, will debut on February 27.
