Described as a reimagining of the classic fairy tale, Netflix's Pinocchio is an animated musical that follows the adventures of a wooden boy on his quest to find his place in the world. The adaptation is set during the rise of fascism and Mussolini in Italy. Del Toro's Pinocchio is a story of love and defiance, in which Pinocchio struggles to live up to his father's expectations.
The animated fantasy film will make its Netflix debut in December.
The voice cast includes Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Byrne Gorman, and newcomer Gregory Mann as Pinocchio.
The screenwriters are Guillermo del Toro and Patrick McHale. Del Toro, Lisa Hanson, Alex Buckley, Cory Campodonico, and Gary Ungar are producing. The stop-motion adaptation of "Pinocchio" is part of del Toro's multi-year deal with Netflix.
