Shadow and Bone finds us in a war-torn world where lowly soldier and orphan Alina Starkov has just unleashed an extraordinary power that could be the key to setting her country free. With the monstrous threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn from everything she knows to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha. But as she struggles to hone her power, she finds that allies and enemies can be one and the same and that nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. There are dangerous forces at play, including a crew of charismatic criminals, and it will take more than magic to survive.

In the show's second season, expect to see more of the characters of Daniel Galligan (played by Nina Zenik), Daisy Head (played by Zhenya Safin), and Callahan Skogman (played by Matthias Helvar).

The show's first season largely adapted events from Shadow and Bone, the first of the Bardugo novels, and remixed elements from Six of Crows, part of a duology set in the same world. The second season will likely follow the events of Throne and Storm, the next book in the Alina Starkov trilogy, but with some additional storylines from the Six of Crows duology.

First season writer Degan Frickland has been promoted to co-showrunner of the series along with returning showrunner Eric Heiser.

No premiere date has been set for season two of Shadow and Bone.
