Hannah John-Kamen has been cast as the lead in Millennium's film adaptation of Red Sonja.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hannah John-Kamen, who played a villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp, will portray Red Sonja in the upcoming Millennium sword and sorcery film Red Sonja.

Hannah John-Kamen has also appeared in Brave New World, Tomb Raider, and Ready Player One. She will next be seen in Sony Pictures' Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City as Jill Valentine.

Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith created Red Sonja, which first appeared in Conan the Barbarian comics in the early 1970s. The character became popular enough to warrant her own book. Red Sonja had her first live-action appearance in the 1985 adaptation, where she was played by Brigitte Nielsen.

"Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she IS Red Sonja," said Soloway in a statement for The Hollywood Reporter, "Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together."

Joey Soloway is directing the upcoming adaptation of Red Sonja. He co-wrote the script with Tasha Huo. The movie will be based on the Red Sonja comic published by Dynamite Entertainment.
