Details of the film are kept under wraps, but A24 describes the film as an "action epic" set in America in the near future. Wagner Moura, Stephen Henderson, and Kaylee Spacey will also star in the film. Civil War is based on an original screenplay written by Garland.
Dunst can currently be seen in Jane Campion's film for Netflix, The Power of the Dog. Dunst also received an Emmy nomination for her role as Peggy Bloomquist in the series Fargo.
A24 will produce the film alongside DNA's Andrew MacDonald, Alon Reich, and Gregory Goodman.
