According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucy Liu will be playing Kalypso. The character will be a villain and is a daughter of Atlas. There is no character with the same name in the Shazam! comics. However, Atlas is one of the names that make up the acronym Shazam.
Liu is best known for her performances in blockbusters such as Charlie’s Angels and Kill Bill. Most recently, she has starred in tv series including Why Women Kill and Elementary.
Liu joins returning actors Asher Angel and Zachary Levi, who will both reprise their roles as respectively Billy Batson and his superhero alter ego Shazam. The cast also includes Rachel Zegler, the star of Steven Spielberg's upcoming West Side Story and Helen Mirren, who will portray the villain Hespera, a daughter of Atlas and Kalypso's sister.
Plot details are kept under wraps.
David F. Sandberg is returning to direct the sequel. Henry Gayden will once again write the script.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled for release on June 2, 2023.
